5. By reason of (its) predominance, and of possession of smell, earth is the material cause of the olfactory sense.

6. In like manner, water, fire and air (are the material causes of the sense organs of taste, color and touch), inasmuch as there is no difference in the taste, color and touch (which they respectively possess, from what they respectively apprehend).
